Introduction to Integrative Psychiatry

Welcome to Dr N M Moola- Integrative Psychiatry.

With the global psychiatric community abuzz with new and improved interventions, the landscape of psychiatry is indeed changing. And at the forefront is Integrative Psychiatry, which not only looks at the patient’s mental health, but also the patient as a whole. The goal of Integrative Psychiatry is ensuring wellness on all levels (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and environmental). It allows for a combination of effective treatments including both conventional and alternative therapies.

I was drawn to psychiatry as I was fascinated by the complexity of human thought processes and belief systems, and the impact of life events and traumas on these, leading to the evolution of psychopathology. Further, having an in depth rapport and therapeutic relationship with the patient is more personally fulfilling than that associated with the more clinical fields of medicine. Integrative Psychiatry in particular allows me to view the patient in a holistic way and empowering them in their recovery. Thus, the focus is on maintaining wellness and minimizing re-admissions. The patient is not their illness, and as such, I strive to treat more than just the illness.

In this blog, I will share pertinent information about Integrative Psychiatry and mental health in general. I have over ten years of experience in this field and I would like to share what I have learnt along the way, as well as new and exciting developments in the constantly evolving world of psychiatry . I also post frequently on social media and you can keep updated by clicking on the links below.
